Production reporting system

RAPOR – Production Reporting System

Project Description/Issue

The client operates the largest gas storage reservoir in the UK, with 340 bcf cushion gas, 100 bcf storage capacity and a delivery capability of 1.5 bcf per day. The client required a multi-site production reporting system driven by a legislative change to report monthly production to the DTI (now BERR).

Key challenges included many manual processes, heavy reliance on spreadsheets, different groups using different units (metric, imperial, energy, volume etc.) and the need for the system to operate 24×7.

Flare’s Approach

Flare adopted an holistic consulting approach to the project, utilising consultants with production and petroleum engineering experience. The consultants worked in the key management support offices, offshore and at the onshore processing facilities alongside engineering teams and management to monitor the work processes, identify process improvements and to make recommendations on how to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Flare adopted an agile approach to the delivery of the solution, focusing on prototyping rather than documentation to deliver solutions for review by the community. As well as providing an efficient method for development of a complex application, this also generated buy-in for the solution at the earliest stages of development.

The results were a streamlined process, refined reporting requirements and role-based, event driven dashboards. The scope of the project included nominations, production and injection reporting, fuel gas, well performance, compressor management and logbooks, metrics and KPIs. Management reporting and forecasting tools were developed as later add-on modules.

Benefits/Outcomes

Increased efficiency of the entire operation, including reduced turnaround time from production to injection.

A robust method for the capture and creation of accurate legislative reporting was delivered.

Role based dashboards provided in-context data, and minimised information overload

Tolerance based key performance indicators allowed for the creation of by-exception reporting, improving decision-making capabilities.

Knowledge, information and data were captured in one place and made available to multiple teams for the first time.
